Best suited to

The IPLT is designed for complete beginners who want to understand what professional trading actually looks like before committing to the full PTM programme. If you have no trading experience, or if you've been trading retail strategies and want to understand the professional alternative, this is the right starting point. It's also excellent for finance students or anyone considering a career in asset management.

What you're paying for

At From $1,299 (indicative — confirm at ITPM) you get Online video · 12-month access, affordable relative to the depth of content delivered. The course covers:

  • Introduction to the professional trading mindset and how institutions approach markets
  • Understanding macro economics and how it drives asset prices across all markets
  • Basic portfolio construction: why professionals always think in long/short terms
  • Risk management fundamentals used by hedge funds and proprietary trading firms
  • Common habits and biases that separate retail approaches from professional risk management
  • Building a systematic process for analysing markets from the top down

Think twice if

This course may not be the right choice if:

  • May feel introductory for traders with some experience
  • Doesn't go as deep into execution strategies as PTM
  • You'll almost certainly want to take PTM afterwards

My view

The IPLT works well as an on-ramp to ITPM's wider curriculum. It focuses less on charts and indicators and more on how professional traders frame markets — starting from the global macro picture and working down to individual positions. In my view, this top-down framing is the course's main strength and the clearest point of difference from most beginner trading content.

It's a foundation course rather than a complete trading education: it sets up the concepts — macro-first thinking, long/short portfolio logic, and how institutional risk management differs from typical retail habits — that the PTM then builds on. If you're new to trading, or you've only used retail approaches such as technical analysis or signal-following, this is a sensible starting point before the PTM.
